On 31 December 2019, WHO was warned of some cases of pneumonia in Wuhan city of Hubei province, China. The infection did not coordinate with some other known infections. This is worrying since when an infection is new, we have no clue how it affects individuals.
Multiple weeks later, on 7 January, Chinese experts confirmed that they had identified another infection. The new infection is a coronavirus, a group of infections that covers the common cold and infections, for example, SARS and MERS. This new infection was mistakenly named "2019-nCoV".
WHO has been working with Chinese experts and experts from around the world since the day we were educated, to become familiar with the transition, how it affects those who are debilitated with it, how they can be dealt with, and How can nations react.
Since it is a coronavirus that commonly causes respiratory disease, the WHO has advice from individuals on the most efficient method to protect themselves and those around them from getting the disease.
